Son of the Morning is the second studio album by American Metalcore band Oh, Sleeper. The Album was released on August 25, 2009 through Solid State Records. The album debuted at #43 on the iTunes music charts.
“Son of the Morning” had become one of the most anticipated hardcore albums this year and it has not disappointed. The intrigue factor was ratcheted up when lead singer Micah Kinard revealed in an interview earlier this year that this would be a concept album.
The concept of the final battle between God and Satan can be seen through the lyrics that at times drip with depth and imagery. The battle concept can also be seen in the artwork. The cover is adorned with a broken pentagram to signify evil vanquished.
This album tells a story and so it begins by introducing its characters. The Son of the Morning describes himself as the rival and the one who speaks in whispers. Later we will meet God who calls himself the writer of history. So the story begins and takes the listener on a journey of battles of words and swords. Son of the Morning comes to an epic close with the final battle. In “The Finisher” we hear from the one that can cause the seas to roar when he speaks.
Son of the Morning expands on some of the experimental qualities that made “When I am God” great and has set the bar yet higher for this band of Texans. This is definitely one to pick up if you haven’t already.
